Description
Foursquare Distillery is owned by the Seale family who have five generations of rum-making expertise dating back to 1820. The family itself can trace its roots on the island back to the 1650s. Being wholly family owned means we are free to pursue a perfectionist agenda compared to most Caribbean rum distilleries which are beholden to the major spirit companies. We invest more time and more money than other distilleries because we believe it makes a difference to the taste. Wherever you find yourself sipping RUM SIXTY SIX Family Reserve it will always have been distilled, aged, blended and bottled on site, at the Foursquare Rum Distillery on the gentle southern slopes of the St George Valley, St Philip, Barbados, West Indies. If you’d like to visit, you’re welcome any time, and it’s free. Wander in and follow the signposted walking tour. We’re about 10 minutes drive north of the airport, about half a mile south west of Six Roads junction.
RUM SIXTY SIX
Rum Sixty Six Tasting Note
RUM SIXTY SIX Family Reserve comes from one of the last independent family-owned distilleries in the Caribbean. It is distilled, aged and bottled at the Foursquare Rum Distillery, Barbados. Small batch distilled (usually 112 barrels) and tropically aged for a minimum of 12 years in small American white oak casks. Spirits in the Caribbean mature more quickly than in Europe due to the warm climate. After 12 years tropical ageing RUM SIXTY SIX has a maturity and complexity comparable with European spirits twice this age. Watch a video tour of Foursquare Rum Distillery. As Whisky Magazine said “Good complexity, excellent balance…”
Gerrys Tasting Note
Rum Sixty Six is a Barbadian offering which comes from the prestigious Seal family of rum makers. A celebration of Barbados’ independence in 1966, Rum Sixty Six is a bit of a national treasure and luckily, its flavour stands the test of time too. Pungency is delivered in the form of smokiness, burnt raisin and undertones of oak and cinnamon. On tasting it’s those raisins that take centre stage, infiltrated with the spice of cinnamon and a lightness which allows this rum to be enjoyed again and again.
The Drink Shop Tasting Note
Rum Sixty Six 12 Year Old Family Reserve is distilled from fermented molasses in small batches (usually 112 barrels) and tropically aged for a minimum of 12 years in small American white oak casks. Tropical ageing describes the fact that spirits in the Caribbean age more quickly than in Europe due to the warm climate. After 12 years tropical ageing Rum Sixty Six has a maturity and complexity comparable with European spirits twice this age.
