River’s Edge Winery

River’s Edge Winery, founded in 1998, specializes in the production of the highest quality pinot noir wines. Two estate vineyards, Black Oak and Elkton, located in the northern most part of the Umpqua Valley of Oregon are the primary sources for our wines. These two vineyards were planted in 1972 and are among the oldest in the state. The climate in our part of the valley is distinctive (much cooler) from the rest of the Umpqua, which was recently (2/13) officially recognized by the federal TTB with the creation of the Elkton Oregon American Viticultural Area, or AVA.  The AVA encompasses the northwest corner of the Umpqua Valley AVA, with no boundary more than eight miles from Elkton. Our wine making style emphasizes a low-tech, hands-on approach utilizing small batch fermentation, exclusively barrel aging and bottling without fining.

River’s Edge Pinot Noir Barrel Select 2012
The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well integrated 50% new oak, and a seamless, harmonious finish that is a joy. At this price – no arguments! – Neal Martin.

Wine Enthusiast Tasting Note
Offering good value, this high-alcohol barrel selection saw 50% new oak. It’s got a whiff of funk, but the main flavors are there—black fruits, coffee grounds, toast, cacao, Dr Pepper—with grainy tannins that finish with generous mocha, caramel and espresso streaks.. Score – 91. (PAUL GREGUTT, Wine Enthusiast, Jan. 2015)

Binnys Tasting Note
“This wine is dark in color, with an aroma of chocolate, anise, dried cherry, earth and mushroom, followed by rich flavors of black cherry and vanilla, with a lingering finish. The fine tannins will enable this wine to age gracefully for the next decade.”
