Description
Urban Chestnut Brewing Company is an unconventional-minded yet tradition-oriented brewer of craft beer. We like to call our unique brewing philosophy Beer Divergency—a ‘new world meets old world’ brewing approach wherein UCBCcontributes to the ‘revolution’ of craft beer with artisanal creations of modern American beers, and pays ‘reverence’ to the heritage of beer with classically-crafted offerings of timeless European beer styles.
Daft Barleywine
Urban Chestnut Tasting Note
Heed these words of advice when you drink this beer – “Be very, very careful lest you be a Daft fool!” If you’ve never had a Barley Wine (which is actually a beer) before, then here’s what you should know- This is an intense beerstyle. Stylistically speaking it can range widely; from being fruity to hoppy in aroma and flavor, from being amber to dark brown in color, and from being mildly heavy to downright tractor-beam-pulling in body, but make no mistake it is always….always high in alcohol. So again “lest you be Daft…please imbibe with care”.
Beer Advocate Tasting Note
DC– Our on-going expedition mostly dedicated to those ever questing ‘rye, whiskey, bourbon, etc. barrel-aged beer zealots’. This particular ‘aged-one’ is a barley-wine ale that rested for a few months in a rye whiskey barrel, imparting it with some not so subtle notes of spicy rye, oak and sweet caramel. As you enjoy this complex and potent beer, please heed those words of advice – “Imbibe with care, lest you be a Daft fool!” SCORE–87, 02-19-2012
Deep copper color. Bold aromas of garlicky dill pickle and honeyed fruits with a soft, flat light-to-medium body and a warming vanilla flan, brandy, sweet potato, peppered jicama, and chocolate dusted kiwi finish. Different. SCORE-87
