Description
Jericho Canyon is a rugged area at the northeast end of the Napa Valley in the Mt. St. Helena foothills. Our vineyard benefits from very hot summer days moderated by cool nights and chilly mornings. These favorable conditions are caused by a break in the Mayacamas range which allows the coastal fog to reach our end of the valley. The vineyard soils are volcanic Boomer clay loam and gravelly loam, both of which provide excellent drainage while reducing yields. We divided the approximately 40 acre vineyard area into 24 blocks, each with its own unique characteristics and idiosyncrasies. By maintaining a permanent cover crop, we are able to prevent erosion, attract beneficial insects, and avoid the use of pesticides. The vineyard’s steep terraces, however, require an exceptional amount of manual labor. Endless hours are spent on each plant over the course of the growing season – pruning, suckering, shoot positioning, leaf pulling, crop thinning, and soil amending – to achieve the proper balance of sun exposure, water, and nutrients that each plant needs in order to develop optimum fruit flavors. By using sustainable agricultural practices, we hope to ensure that our vineyard will remain healthy and productive for our children and our children’s children.
Jericho Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2009
Jericho Canyon Tasting Note
Intoxicating aromas of cocoa and black fruits lift to reveal hints of graphite, dusty tannins, and subtle minerality. Plush and velvety on the palate, this deep ruby wine is ready to drink immediately but possesses the purity and depth to cellar for years to come.
Cellar Tracker Tasting Note
Much better effort then the 07′. Nothing specific, but this was medium bodied, with really nice aromatics. Well integrated tannins and some juicy acidity. I found this enjoyable. It definitely wasn’t over the top Cali cab but we enjoyed the restraint of this wine. Having said that the price may be a little high. Score: 93 Points, 4/28/2013
Tastings Tasting Note
Deep garnet violet color. Aromas of chocolate graham crackers, cherry pie, and lightly smoked nuts with a silky fruity-yet-dry medium-to-full body and a pleasant chocolate and delicate spice finish with fine tannins. An artfully composed cabernet. 91 Points, Date Tasted: 1/27/2014
Brix26 Tasting Note
This Cabernet Sauvignon fills the glass with ripe black fruit accented with notes of espresso and licorice. The wine’s aroma carries through to a deep and satisfying palate. With a nice balance of fresh fruit, depth, concentration, and tannins, this Cabernet is enjoyable now and will also benefit from cellaring. Only 1,000 cases produced.
