Gapsted Wines was established in 1996 by seven great friends who were also wine professionals. Their extensive experience in the industry and their passion for the King and Alpine Valleys in Victoria were central to the success of the winery over its relatively short existence. In 1999 the first wines were released under the Gapsted brand and in 2001 the stunning and award winning Cellar Door was opened. The premium brand of cool climate red and white wines are at the heart of the winery’s success. Gapsted Wines and cellar door are located on the Great Alpine Road, one of Australia’s premier touring routes. The road meanders its way along the stunningly picturesque Alpine Valley, up through the rugged Victorian mountain ranges to the height of 1700 metres, before winding down the other side and ending at Australia’s sun drenched southern coastline. The owners of Gapsted Wines are all passionate people with Shayne Cunningham and John Cavedon providing the drive for the business. After growing up in Gapsted and surrounds and many years of share farming tobacco with his parents, John purchased a property in the King Valley in 1974 and in 1978 he established his vineyard. The vineyard produces award winning wines such as Pinot Gris, Prosecco, Fiano and other varied and unusual varieties. John is involved in the winery on an ongoing basis and is also our Grower Liaison Officer. As the Grower Liaison Officer it is John’s role to source and purchase the best quality fruit in the region for the winery. This is a natural role for John and perfectly suited to his outgoing personality, commitment to grower excellence and love of great wine.

This wine is pale yellow in colour with attractive green hues. The nose displays lifted herbaceous and tropical fruit aromas. These aromas lead to a lively palate with ripe passionfruit, gooseberry and citrus flavours. This Sauvignon Blanc shows true varietal characters, and should be consumed young to take advantage of its vibrant style.
