Description
In September 2006, Ted’s good friend, Brian Maguire, had traveled to Washington DC to testify before a Senate subcommittee considering federal protection of 128,000 acres on and around Mt. Hood. Brian testified specifically for the inclusion of more than 17,000 acres in areas that had become near and dear to him over the years of hiking and hunting, particularly the area of Big Bottom. Protecting Big Bottom from logging was the entire reason why Brian got involved in conservation years earlier. In March 2009, President Obama signed the 2009 Omnibus Public Lands Management Act and as a result, Big Bottom is now federally protected wilderness. In honor of this beautiful old growth forest, Big Bottom Distilling was born. As a company, we make it our mission to continue to support Oregon Conservation and Wildlife efforts.
Big Bottom Oregon Gin
Big Bottom Tasting Note
Big Bottom Navy Strength Gin is a 114 proof gin containing the same 16 botanicals as the 91 proof Oregon Gin. It presents a slightly heavier juniper bouquet than the 91 Oregon gin with a delicate hint of lemon grass and citrus. This Navy Strength Gin offers a balanced spice throughout the palate followed by a mild heat and crisp finish. Big Bottom Navy Strength Gin was awarded a Bronze Medal at the 2015 Washington Cup Spirits Competition and a Bronze Medal at the 2015 Great American Spirits Festival.
Drink Hacker Tasting Note
Same gin as the above, but higher in proof. It offers similar notes to the lower-proof product, but it’s plenty racier if that’s your bag. As with many an overproof product, the higher-proof version will immediately fire up the palate, but it also offers a few surprises: a slightly fruitier character, and juniper that’s more immediately evident. Slight caramel notes offer a silky sweetness on the back end. All in all, it’s a solid Navy version of a juniper-restrained gin. 114 proof.
