Bartinney Winery

Bartinney is set on the dramatic slopes of Botmaskop alongside the Helshoogte Pass overlooking the picturesque Banhoek Valley in Stellenbosch. Michael and Rose Jordaan repurchased the 27 ha family farm in 2006 after it had been sold out of family hand 9 years before, with a vision to create excellent wines and reawaken the charm of the historic land. Creating excellence in wine has not been a singular pursuit.  Our belief is that every aspect must work in harmony: agriculture with nature, people with animals, sustainability with excellence. The vines are planted to a height of 550m above sea level and with slopes as steep as 45 degrees, the wines have exceptional expression and character. This unique terroir is captured in each vintage of the elegant Bartinney Estate wines. The vines are old, many planted a quarter century ago. Small pockets of hand-tended Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay vineyards offer up perfect fruit from low yielding vines on cooler elevated slopes, while the Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards, in deep red soils, on the slightly lower foothills of the Botmaskop mountains express their mineral and rich berry character in perfect balance.

Bartinney Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Bartinney Wine Tasting Note
Our Cabernet Sauvignon is a vibrant and full bodied wine. The nose displays aromatic plum and dense cassis with a hint of mint. Classic oak characteristics like chocolate, cedar and roasted coffee beans compliment the black berry fruit flavours. The tannins are refined but present and this wine will be at its best in +5 years.

Empire Wine Tasting Note
“Good medium ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of plum, blackberry syrup, mocha and coffee. Rich, silky & glyceral but with firm, nicely integrated acidity giving cut to the flavors of dark berries, bitter chocolate and coffee. Finishes with good backbone and grip. Showing well already but may gain in complexity with a few years of bottle age.”

Wine Spectator Tasting Note
” Dark and winey, with focus to the red- and black currant, anise and singed tobacco leaf notes. A savory edge ripples through the finish. Drink now through 2015. 40 cases imported. ” Points- 90
