Description
In September 2006, Ted’s good friend, Brian Maguire, had traveled to Washington DC to testify before a Senate subcommittee considering federal protection of 128,000 acres on and around Mt. Hood. Brian testified specifically for the inclusion of more than 17,000 acres in areas that had become near and dear to him over the years of hiking and hunting, particularly the area of Big Bottom. Protecting Big Bottom from logging was the entire reason why Brian got involved in conservation years earlier. In March 2009, President Obama signed the 2009 Omnibus Public Lands Management Act and as a result, Big Bottom is now federally protected wilderness. In honor of this beautiful old growth forest, Big Bottom Distilling was born. As a company, we make it our mission to continue to support Oregon Conservation and Wildlife efforts.

Beverage Industry Tasting Note
Big Bottom Distilling released its first distilled product, Big Bottom Oregon Gin. Big Bottom Oregon Gin is a slightly sweet gin containing 16 botanicals to offer a complex bouquet of floral qualities that complement the juniper. Founder and Owner Ted Pappas and his new Head Distiller Travis Schoney believe gin is making a comeback and that the availability of different botanicals has opened up new opportunities to create new product outside the range of traditional gin, the company says.
Proof66 Tasting Note
Big Bottom Gin is distilled and bottled on site in Oregon and comprised of 16 separate botanicals. They call it a “slightly sweet” gin, in contrast to the traditional dried styles and causes us to categorize it as a modern-styled gin. Big Bottom Distillery is named for an area of woodlands around Mt Hood in Oregon where Brian Macguire–co-founder of the Big Bottom–was instrumental in achieving federal protection from development and logging.
