As is often the case with large properties in the part of Tuscany, the building that now forms Ca’ di Pesa developed and changed throughout the centuries. Records dating back to the XI century show that it was a part of the ancient Roffiano castle, a military structure tied to the monks of Passignano. At the end of the XII century, Roffiano was the object of an armed dispute between Passignano and the Bishop of Fiesole. In 1261 it was conquered and occupied by the Ghibellines, who destroyed a portion of it – including the top of its tower, and a house.

Tasting Notes 1.
Ca’ di Pesa L’Orcio’s 2013 Chianti Classico Ca’ di Pesa is fabulous. Rich, sumptuous and resonant in the glass, 2013 is utterly captivating from the very first taste. The flavors are bold yet also beautifully delineated – especially for such an intense wine – while the French oak is better integrated than it has been in any other previous vintage. A host of rose petal, savory herb, mocha, and spice add nuance on the finish. Readers should expect an ample, textured Chianti Classico that reflects the inherent intensity of the Conca d’Oro. That said, the estate’s 2013 has a personality all its own.
Tasting Notes 2.
Soft and elegant, medium body, with persistent and elegant endnotes.
