Description
At EFESTĒ we believe that great wines are based on two simple principles: terroir and a minimal winemaking approach. We utilize native fermentation, which encourages more complexity and produces fuller, richer wines than those inoculated with commercial yeast. The natural yeast within the grapes creates flavors unique to each particular vineyard. We encourage character; great wines should have personality. EFESTĒ, pronounced F-S-T, is an acronym for the winery’s original three founders: Ferrelli, Smith, and Taylor. Their idea to make 2 barrels of wine based on the Ferrelli annual tradition of winemaking has since evolved into a family label. Our wines begin their lives in the best areas of Washington. In 2007 EFESTĒ planted three vineyards owned by Kevin and Angela Taylor in Washington’s Yakima Valley AVA in order to produce estate bottlings. In 2015 we released our first 100% estate wine, Oldfield Estate Rosé, to great acclaim.
Efeste Jolie Bouche Syrah 2011
Wine Enthusiast Tasting Note
This offering from one of the state’s most esteemed Syrah vineyards conveys coffee, mineral, bacon fat, dark chocolate and funk—with the aromas not seeming entirely knitted together. Flavors show good richness and intensity leading to an elegant finish.. Score – 89. (SEAN SULLIVAN, Wine Enthusiast, 5/1/2015)
Cellar Tracker Tasting Note
Violet in color. 14% ABV. Black fruits, iron, flowers and game on the nose. Medium to full bodied with strong acidity. Rich and savory on the palate. Flavors of blackberry, olives and black cherry. Somewhat restrained compared to previous vintages but the wine picks up weight on the long finish. Drink over the next 3-5 years. Score – 91, TOMLEE- 1/17/2016
Mad Wine Tasting Note
With a deep and youthful purple/ruby color saturated core, the 2011 displays reductive aromas of graphite, wood smoke and bacon fat, paired with bright berry-type fruit and pepper. On the palate, the wine is evenly weighted with bright acidity and heaps of dark fruit, finishing with black licorice and olive flavors. An elegant red, superbly Mediterranean in style and distinctly Boushey Vineyard, it will continue to gain momentum in the bottle, gaining both palate weight and complexity.
