Description
Eppalock Ridge is a quality driven red wine brand, producing remarkable wines in Australia’s premier shiraz region, Heathcote. After starting his winemaking apprenticeship at D’Arenburg Winery, Rod Hourigan worked vintages at Pirramimma and Coriole, gaining invaluable hands on experience. The first wines were produced under the Romany Rye label in the late 1970’s and 80’s. In 1988 the first Eppalock Ridge wines were released. These were made from grapes drawn from Heathcote and Bendigo districts, and won high praise. Over time, Rod and Sue recognized the fruit from Colbinabbin on the 500 million year old Cambrian soils produced superior wine grapes, to their original vineyards in Redesdale. They progressively sourced more and more fruit from these northern vineyards. From the beginning, Rod and Sue planned to pursue the ultra-premium path. Today, the Hourigan’s are reaping the rewards from their vision. Since the 1980’s Eppalock Ridge has gathered an extensive list of awards (both nationally and internationally) including high praise in the US Wine Spectator Magazine, continually scored great ratings from James Halliday and won almost 100 medals and accolades in Australian and International Wine Shows and publications.
Eppalock Ridge Heathcote Shiraz 2013
Cellar Tracker Tasting Note
Good for the price. Not familiar with Heathcote wines. Needs a year or so before it should be drunk in my opinion The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. The body is medium. The wine has narrow texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has medium acidity.
Wine Selectors Tasting Note
A gold medal-winner, the Eppalock Ridge Shiraz is an unbelievable Shiraz, especially given its modest price. Crafted from Heathcote fruit, it delivers a delicious core of black fruit with a plummy juiciness. In the glass: Full, deep red
On the nose: Lifted, elegant light red berry and leather. On the palate: Shows beautiful structure and silken tannins with a rich core of perfumed dark berry fruit and pretty violet notes, velvety texture, spicy peppery persistence and seamless line and length. Ageing beautifully.
- Wine Selectors Magazine, this is an unbelievable Shiraz, especially given its modest price. It has an alluring nose of blood plum, blackberry, white pepper and cedar – leading to a delicious core of black fruit with a plummy juiciness.
