Struzziero Winery

The “Azienda Vinicola Struzziero” winery is located in the small municipality of Venticano, in the province of Avellino. Established in 1920 by Elisiario Struzziero, the company has always believed in the philosophy of quality, and has also made excellent use of its favorable position in the very center of the Taurasi production area. Here the grapes are hand-picked and subsequently crushed and vinified. This is followed, in the winery, by a careful selection of the products, and the bottling of the wines following criteria based on the search for quality which has always been the company’s objective. The 26th March 1970 is the date that production of the Greco di Tufo and Taurasi “Denominazione di Origine Controllata – D.O.C.” wines began. The person responsible for this project was the present owner, Giovanni Struzziero. The first signs of appreciation began to appear, mostly from abroad, especially the United States (The Wine Spectator – New York: 94 points. The Italian Wine Competition – San Francisco 1986. The Italian Wine Competition – Chicago 1987). Struzziero’s son Mario joined the company as an enologist in 1989, and he continues to follow the process of selecting and controlling the production from vineyard to vinification to bottling. The commitment of the Struzziero family to the “Denominazione di origine controllata e garantita – D.O.C.G.” acknowledgment is evident and of primary importance due to the role it played in the past. In 1994, production began of a Spumante Brut Metodo Classico D.O.C. Greco di Tufo sparkling wine. To date, the “Azienda Vinicola Struzziero” is the only company in Campania to produce this sparkling wine. In 1998, work was started on the restructuring and modernization of the whole production complex. All the installations were renewed and a completely computerized packaging line was introduced, with an hourly capacity of 3,000 bottles. A brand new barrel cellar was also built to house a new collection of barrels and casks. The Struzziero family’s latest commitment is to investment in its vineyards: the winery has around 13 hectares of Fiano “Roseto”, Taurasi “Villafosca” and Greco “Villagiulia” vineyards. The company’s latest efforts are aimed at increasing the typicality of its products and looking into ways of improving quality.
