Description
Bodegas Frontonio
Frontonio is located in the village of Épila, in the IGP Valdejalón in Aragón. They have acquired up to 17 plots of old vines (all around the village of Alpartir), some planted as early as 1890, up to 55 hectares, and have an old traditional winery they are restoring. In 2019 they are going to launch two new wines from an exceptional vineyard, El Jardín de las Iguales, a valley where they are really investing and planting some more, even recovering old terraces and rebuilding the ancient dry stone walls. The current output is 135,000 bottles.

Tasting Notes 1
The direct and pure old vine 2017 Microcósmico Macabeo was obtained by only aging 10% of the wine in 500-liter oak barrels for six months, while the rest was in stainless steel with lees. In reality, it comes all from a vineyard, but they consider it a wine representative of the village of Épila.
Tasting Notes 2
It has the citrus character I found in the 2017 whites, with an interesting bitter note, developing notes of fennel with time in the glass. Macabeo has been unfairly ignored in Aragón, and it has a lot of potential… 6,500 bottles were filled in April 2018.
