Spirits are one of the highest in ABV

Alcohol by volume is a standardized measurement of how much alcohol is within a beverage. As one of the many yeast-based fermented brews around, spirits are the ones with some of the highest alcohol content in them! Some spirits you may be familiar with are gin, vodka, tequila, and of course the darker beverages whiskey, rum, and bourbon.

Spirits are distilled

What really sets spirits apart from the other alcoholic beverages is a process called distillation. Unlike beer and wine, spirits go through the additional step of distillation to further fortify them by removing components such as water. While all three alcohol varieties are fermented to get their base flavors, the flavor of a spirit is then concentrated into a stronger version of itself through the distillation process. This is how the alcohol content and flavor are increased.

Spirits can be made from beer and wine

The key factor that sets spirits apart from other alcoholic beverages is the distillation process. This means that spirits can be distilled from an already completed product such as wine or beer. While spirts require an additional step to complete, we can confirm that this process is well worth the wait.
