Description

Azienda Agricola Adanti

The Farm Adanti is one of the historic cellars of the Montefalco area in Umbria, famous for its wines protected as Sagrantino and Montefalco Rosso. It covers about 40 hectares of land, of which 30 to vineyards and 10 to olive groves, located in the hilly areas of Arquata and Colcimino, famous since ancient times for its high quality of olive oil and wine. The winery produces mainly red wines from indigenous grapes, Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG dry and sweet, and then the Montefalco Rosso DOC and the Red Arquata Umbria IGT, but also continues to produce the characteristic white wines such as the Grechetto and the Montefalco Bianco. The grapes used, mainly varieties Sangiovese and Sagrantino, but also Cabernet, Barbera, Merlot and Grechetto, come exclusively from estate vineyards.

Wine Enthusiast Tasting Note
Aromas of underbrush, leather, truffle and a balsamic note lead the nose on this lush wine. On the concentrated palate, ripe plum and blackberry take center stage while notes of vanilla, mocha, licorice and clove play supporting roles. Velvety tannins generate a smooth texture and make it extremely approachable. Drink through 2019. Score – 92. (Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, Feb. 2015)

Vintage Assessments Tasting Note
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, complex, mature, attractive, ripe warm plum-red licorice notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, harmonious, slightly spicy, still bright, ripe plum-cherry puree flavours with a lingering, gently cedary, sandalwood finish. Showing very well and can last for a few more years. Has 14.5% alcohol and 11 g/L residual sugar. The current average price in the US is $50 CND. Score – 93  Recommended by Vintage Assessments!  A Best Buy

Wine Allign Tasting Note
Sara d’Amato – In the shadow of Tuscany, Umbria produces some exceptional wines that often lack the prestige they deserve. Sangrantino is a highly specialized variety only grown in this small hilltop region of Montefalco. This version is may very well induce a wine coma so beware. Still quite youthful due to its big structure, its palate offers enticing notes of ripe cherry, fresh fig, baked pecan, smoky thyme and mineral. Keep a bottle of this on hand when you need to impress. 90 out of 95 based on three reviews.

Globe And Mail Tasting Note
The powerful tannins of Umbria’s signature sagrantino grape have been admirably tamed in this complex red, though thankfully not beaten into lifeless submission. We’ve got impressive structure here, full-bodied and complex, with succulent dark-skinned fruit, chocolate, licorice and woody-spice characters set against those chewy and chalky but not unfriendly tannins. Available in Ontario through Vintages on Oct. 17. A lamb-lover’s delight. Various prices in Alberta. Rating 92
